Registration now open

Registration to EAD09 – The Endless End is now open.

The Conference will take place in Porto, Portugal, between May 4 and 7, 2011.

As the conference program develops, we are proud to announce the first confirmed keynote speakers for The Endless End – EAD09 – Porto, May 2011.

Jon Wozencroft

Jon Wozencroft is currently Senior Tutor in the Communication Art and Design Department at the Royal College of Art. He studied as a postgraduate at the London College of Printing, working for various printers and publishers before setting up the multimedia publishing company Touch in 1982. As well as working as a freelance writer, designer, editor and programme-maker, Wozencroft collaborated with artists and musicians from around the world developed Touch as an alternative vision of audio-visual publishing. A series of contributions to Touch from Neville Brody let to closer involvement, firstly in helping to set up the Brody Studio in 1987, later as an author of The Graphic Language of Neville Brody. At the end of 1988, they published a treatise on corporate design culture in The Guardian Review. In 1990, they started the FUSE project, of which Wozencroft is the editor. Jon Wozencroft began teaching at Central St. Martin’s School of Art and Design in London in 1992 where he developed a new course for BA Graphic Design. In 1994 he was appointed main tutor and assistant course director for MA Interactive Multimedia at the Royal College of Art.

Jon Wozencroft’s research interests focus on new music and its relationship to design and visual media; the impact of digital media on audio-visual practice and how the relationship between sound and image has been altered since the introduction of laptop computers in the late 1990s and the impact of digital media upon human perception.

Prof. Tevfik Balcıoğlu

Prof. Tevfik Balcıoğlu is the founding and current Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts & Design at Izmir University of Economics, Turkey, since 2004. Prof. Balcıoğlu has studied at Middle East Technical University, attended the Royal College of Art, and has taught at Goldsmiths’ College and Kent Institute of Art & Design, UK, where he established and ran the BA (Hons) Three Dimensional Design. He has organised several international conferences, has edited a several books, including The Role of Product Design in Post-Industrial Society, and Dancing with Disorder: Design, Discourse, Disaster and has edited a special issue of Design Journal entitled: A Glance at Design Discourse in Turkey. He is the founder of the ‘Design History Society, Turkey’ (4T:Türkiye Tasarım Tarihi Topluluğu) and its annual 4T conferences of which proceedings have been published since 2005.  He has written regularly for a Turkish design journal, XXI Architecture, Design and Space, and is a member of the European Academy of Design.

Full paper submission under way; registration and program soon.

Many thanks for your submissions for the forthcoming European Academy of Design 2011 Conference. For those of you who have had your abstract/poster accepted, you will by now have received our email, and will now have until January 14, 2011 to submit the full paper/poster, which will be the subject of double-blind review for the purposes of publication and presentation.

FORMAL REQUESTS FOR FULL PAPER:

- Please use only word template for both windows and mac

- Name, Middle name, Surname

- Title, position and institution, e-mail

- Paper title

- Abstract

- No files larger than 3MB

- Paper should not exceed 4000 words

- Embed all graphics within the file (if there are any). Images that need to be of high resolution will be asked to be submitted separately.

- The style of bibliographic citation and reference should follow agreed standards of Harvard System and must provide the complete information that permits a reader to find the item cited

- The document should be named EAD09.surname

FORMAL REQUESTS FOR FULL POSTER:

- Please provide a pdf file for both windows and mac.

- The poster must be A1 in size, preferably vertical, with a maximum of 3 poster sheets.

- The language of the poster should be English.

- The document should be named EAD09.poster.surname

- No files larger than 10MB as email attachments; otherwise, please provide us with a downloadable link.

Poster must include the following information:

- Name, Middle name, Surname

- Title, position and institution, e-mail

- Poster title

- The style of bibliographic citation and reference should follow agreed standards of Harvard System and must provide the complete information that permits a reader to find the item cited.

The full paper submission will soon be available at the Conference website: endlessend.up.pt

 

The language of the full paper and the presentation is English.

You will receive further information on the formatting of the final version of your paper once it has been reviewed.

All accepted papers and posters will be published in the online Conference Proceedings; all abstracts corresponding to the accepted full papers/posters will be published in hard copy format. These will be put into the Conference Delegate pack, which you will receive on arrival at the Conference venue in Porto, Portugal.

Please note that all delegates (including authors) must register in advance of the meeting. You will soon be able to do so at endlessend.up.pt, and will be able to take advantage of the Early Bird discounted registration fee.

We are currently finalising the budget, and will announce fees and online payment options in the next few days.

Abstract review results soon

Abstract submission for EAD09 – The Endless End was an outstanding success: over twice the expected number of submissions!
We apologise for the delay in getting back to you, which is due to this overwhelming success. The outcome of the reviews will be out very shortly.
The new deadline for notification of acceptance is November 8, 2010.
